IVU is a revolutionary idea that will break all conventional barriers in the monotonous structure of the prevailing educational environment. Bringing education to the Internet not only solves many conventional problems, but more importantly it is leading us to a completely new dimension of education. Software like IVU remove all geographical boundaries and limitations for learning and getting a treasure of knowledge.
IVU is a highly portable web-based application, and does not need to be installed on any particular computer. It is completely platform independent, making it very appealing and easy to use. The performance is highly sophisticated and the user interface is unmatched. To use this software, all you need is a computer and an Internet Connection. IVU is a highly flexible software that can be customized to suit the need and requirements of an institute or organization.
IVU allows teachers and students to communicate with each other through both audio and video conferences.
At IVU, all kinds of facilities are provided in scheduled classes where students can interact with teachers, take quizzes/exams and receive results online. The teacher can keep track of the entire course and evaluate the performance of the students along with their respective attendance.
The notes of all lectures can be made available to the teacher and students of all the classes through database storage on the web.
How IVU Works
- The system allows visitors to browse the main areas of the site without restrictions such as asking for any password.
- The visitors, once interested in a program of study, may acquire a guest password by supplying common information (such as: name, address, phone number, and email address, etc.).
- Once the guest has decided to enroll in any program of study (courses), he or she can formally apply for enrollment. The enrollment process entails the guest filling out an online enrollment form, and supplying detailed personal information about him/herself, educational and work background, and the courses that he/she is interested in enrolling with.
- Once the enrollment form is submitted an administrator evaluates it, and the application is subsequently approved or rejected. The administrator, at the time of evaluation, may request for an interview to acquire more information about the applicant by contacting him/her via phone or email. If the enrollment application is approved, the administrator enrolls the applicant as a student and informs the student of his/her status. If the application is rejected the applicant is informed of the decision and the reason behind it.
- Once a student is enrolled in the chosen study program, he/she can select from the schedules offered for the enrolled courses and join one or more sessions.
- The student then needs to pay for the selected courses. Once the fees have been paid, the administrator will acknowledge the payment through e-mail.
- After getting the receipt of payment, the student can the join class sessions of the selected courses.
- Apart from the afore-mentioned functions, the administrator can also be able to do the following:
i. Maintain the course information. ii. Schedule the available courses and offer them for subsequent enrollment. iii. Assign selected teachers to the course schedules. iv. Monitor a student's progress and send any warnings or notices to the student as the need arises.
- When the student intends to join the enrolled class during an on-going session, he or she would need to forward the request to the teacher. The teacher may in turn either approve or reject the request. If at the time of request, the teacher is not present in the virtual class, the student may wait or chat with other students present in the class before the teacher rejoins the session.
- On the other hand, if a student wishes to leave an on-going class session he or she would have to put a request to the teacher.
- A teacher in a virtual class administers work assignments, notes or presentations to the students.
- Assignments, notes, lectures, and student results can be uploaded by the teacher into a repository (storage). Moreover, the teacher can also download the due assignments (completed & submitted by the students), along with notes (prepared and stored in the repository).
- The teacher can also administer quizzes, score them and give his/her remarks. These scores would be part of the final course score of a particular student.
- Moreover, a student may ask the teacher question(s) anytime, and the teacher may in turn choose whether to reply to the corresponding student.
- The teacher may, according to his discretion, mute a particular student so that the student is unable to send any messages to the teacher. However, the student would be able to observe the on-going class discussions and lectures for the remainder of the class session. The teacher may, during the session, remove any restrictions imposed on the student.
- A teacher has the authority to drop a student from an on-going course on the basis of the behavior or attentiveness.
- Apart from a teacher's role in a class, students in an on-going class session are able to deliver presentations to the whole virtual class.
- Students are able to participate in group discussions with other students of the class, with the consent of the class teacher.
- Students may download assignments and notes (prepared by the teacher or other students for the enrolled course). They will also be able to upload completed assignments and notes.
Salient Features of IVU
- Online Classes: A virtual class in IVU is just like a normal class but without geographical boundaries, in which the teacher and students can be situated anywhere on the globe but in the virtual class they will feel like in the same room. The online class module enables the teacher to communicate synchronously and deliver online lectures to the students. During a class session, a teacher may conduct online quizzes, announce the class topic, give lecture slides to the students, allow students to have group discussions on a particular assigned topic, send students outside the class, allow a student to give presentation, and much more. Many features of the Physical Class Environment have been incorporated to give these virtual classes a more lively touch; students can raise their hands to ask questions, to seek teacher's permission to leave the class or to make a presentation in the class.
IVU offers several comprehensive features such as online Audio & Video conferencing between the teacher and students. The White board feature allows the teacher to explain lectures using free-hand notes and sketches. Besides this many other features have been introduced such as a quiz/test completion indicator for the students, whereby students will be prompted before the finish time. Online Registration
